About Safe and Sound Protocol

Supporting Regulation, Connection and Calm

At Journey Pediatric Therapy, we believe that helping children feel safe, calm, and connected is the foundation for learning and growth. The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a research-based listening program designed to help regulate the nervous system and support emotional and sensory well-being. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, SSP uses specially filtered music to reduce stress, promote calm, and improve the ability to connect and communicate.

What the Safe and Sound Protocol Can Help With:

  • Sound sensitivities or sensory overload
  • Anxiety or emotional regulation challenges
  • Difficulty with focus or attention
  • Social connection difficulties
  • Stress related to transitions or new environments

How It Works

The Safe and Sound Protocol uses music that has been acoustically filtered to stimulate the vagus nerve — part of the body’s system that helps us feel safe and socially engaged. By gently exercising the auditory system, SSP can help the brain and body respond to stress in a more regulated way
